Families or Peace on Earth
By Friko of Friko's Musings
Between us, we have six children; one pair each from previous marriages and two adopted children, also a pair. Four of them have partners, two have children.
Individually, they are delightful people.
We have a wonderful variety of colours and races in the family. We have black and white and brown skinned people; we have English, German, Dutch, Danish, Jewish, Polish, Armenian, Pakistani and West Indian blood sloshing around.
We have adherents of different religions and none.
We have an equally colourful mix of professions in the family, from the oldest member to the youngest. We have a musician, a linguist, a physicist, an archeologist, a graphic designer, a pilot, a pastor, a medical doctor, an accountant and a soldier. We even have our own sociologist and counsellor, who could put us all right.
We could be our own mini United Nations, and our own noisy, argumentative, lively debating society. We could sort out the world’s problems single-family-handedly.
So, do we? Do we, heck.
Like I said, all of them are delightful people, separately. But it would take the combined effort, full-time, of a small nation’s diplomatic corps to get all of them 'round the negotiating table at the same time.
Is there a moral to this story? I don't know, you tell me.

Sounds like our family Friko! Moral? I don't know but perhaps that it takes more than blood and genes to make a family and that being a family doesnt mean you always have to think feel or belive in the same things.

That's an impressive bunch of people, and must make for interesting gatherings.
Perhaps one moral might be:
it's not always easy, but it is always interesting.

An interesting family. Too bad they can't all be together in harmony, but isn't that the nature of our species? We don't easily tolerate differences even in the same family. I know it must be painful for you to see that they can't be together lovingly. So, I guess you have to enjoy them individually as you say.

My experience has been....there are FRIENDS and there is family....One I can choose.

It's a small world, after all. You do have your own United Nations and a wonderful variety of professions to call on when you need help. I think that variety is the spice of life and it sounds like you have plenty of that.

I'd love to listen to one of your family gatherings - if you ever have one with everyone assembled - I bet it is not dull.
