A Mainstream Response to S.1959

category_bug_politics.gif There has been a response as a result of our "elder campaign" to bring S.1959, The Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007 (full text here), to wider attention. The Claremont (California) Courier, published a letter in yesterday's (Saturday) edition from joared who blogs at Along the Way.

Who knows the reasons, but the paper has not published the letter in their online edition.

joared tells me via email that she will soon post a story about the published letter on her blog, but hasn't yet decided what else to note

"...other than an encouraging comment to everyone that efforts to receive more exposure for this issue can be achieved if we keep writing."

Perhaps she will publish the text of her letter which may give the rest of us a hint or two on how to write a successful letter to the editor. Congratulations to joared - well done!

[At The Elder Storytelling Place today, the final episode of the fairy tale, Chandra and Her Georg, has been posted.]

There are posts concerning this at Firedoglake (http://firedoglake.com/2007/12/02/are-homegrown-terrorists-growing-on-the-internet/) and The Left Coaster (http://www.theleftcoaster.com/archives/011425.php).

And I need to post something myself; my readers are mostly interested in craft-type stuff and goats and chickens, but it wouldn't hurt to put it in front of their faces.

The Claremont Courier is bi-weekly with the newspaper issues published Wednesdays and Saturdays. Since the Sat. paper is the current issue still on the newstands, I expect the earliest the web site will be updated is Mon. 12/03 and maybe not until before their next edition, Weds. 12/05.

I will post an update on my blog soon. Thanks for noting this, Ronni, and providing the link.

Great work, Joared!!!! I think I'm going to write one to our paper, too, but knowing them and their editorial policy, it won't be published but you never know unless you try!!!!

I have sent two letters on this subject to my daily morning paper and they have yet to mention it. We have two newspapers in Tucson and the morning paper is supposed to be the liberal one. Since being taken over it has become a very provincial paper with more coverage of sports than anything else. I am thinking of canceling my subscription.
