Aware of Life in This Body

EDITOR'S NOTE: It's been a year since William Weatherstone (a retired trucker who calls himself the diesel gypsy) had a story for us. Long-time ESP readers may recall that for several years – from 2009 to 2012 - “Old Bill” shared the experience of caring for his wife Muriel after she had been diagnosed with dementia.

From full-time home care and later when she moved to an assisted living home, Bill wrote honestly and openly about how it was for them. You can find all Bill's stories here.

It has taken six year's for Muriel's name to work its way up to the top of the waiting list at the residence Bill has wanted for her from the beginning. Finally, she is in the best possible place and Bill tells me he can relax a bit.

So now there is time to think and wonder about life.

By William Weatherstone who blogs at The Diesel Gypsy

(The odd time when cabin fever creeps into my mind as well as different forms of boredom, I may sit and think to myself. I quite often come up with the same subject question. Do you think you could answer it for me? (Just kidding), but the question is still in my mind at times.)

Have you ever wondered how you became aware of who you are as this particular life form?

I have wondered how I was selected to be who I am now. Why me now and not some caveman thousands of years ago, or someone during the 11th century or even a millionaire of today?

I could have been a prehistoric animal of some sort, but here I am as me - Bill in the 20 and 21st century.

My question now is who or what entity selected and created my awareness to occupy this body, at this time in history? Can anyone or any entity tell me?

[INVITATION: All elders, 50 and older, are welcome to submit stories for this blog. They can be fiction, non-fiction, poetry, memoir, etc. Please read instructions for submitting.]

I think about this a lot. Not as a matter of selection though.

Seems to me life is an accident - luck, really. It was random luck that "selected" us pre-birth. It was luck that life itself started. Earth was a dead planet for a long time before life's ingredients got stirred together.

What's behind it all? When order comes out of chaos (our universe out of the Big Bang) is some intelligence behind it? All I can think of is Nature. But then what IS Nature?

William, what a question you have asked! I wonder why. I am exposed to so many people with so many different beliefs. I have even been told by a so-called clairvoyant that my daughter was my daughter in another life. Maybe this is true and maybe not, depending upon what one believes since we are not privy to the mind and workings of God, if one believes in God.

I can only speak from my own Christian beliefs, while understanding that others may have different beliefs.

I believe that one God created us and knew exactly what He was making and in what human form, place and time He breathed life into us. I don't believe we were accidents.

If you are amazed by the creation, then how much more the creator. Just how lucky can a person be? :-)

I can only speak from my own experiences as a mystic.

I am here now because Oneness somehow allows me to seem differentiated from it by tainting me with time and space.

But this is me bearing witness. There is no belief involved. Only now.
