What are the Odds?

By Joanne Zimmermann

Tonight I sat in my spa outside and just marveled at the gazillion stars and the fact that I am really here. I just read where Hubble had been pointed at a completely black spot for ten days. Surprisingly it found that there were multi-galaxies just going on and on forever for all I know.

When you think of the odds, you are so lucky. Your mom had 600,000 eggs when she was born. Some were lost, and your dad also had a good supply of sperm and that somehow, wow, they connected and made you.

You survived birth, many dangers and you have probably survived three score or more if you are on the Elder Storytelling Place. I happen to live in Florida in one of the neatest areas there is. There is so much to do I cannot begin to do as much as I would like.

Perhaps all is not perfect in your life but if you have relatively good health you have a chance that very few have. You are you, and quite YOUNEEK. There is only one and there will never be another.

Value your odd gait, your crooked nose, your funny body. None of that means anything because you have been given the greatest gift, LIFE. Embrace it wholeheartedly with joy. And this particular time in history is the most amazing with technology and space travel.

Do not waste it for a minute, for it will be over in a millesecond of time. I wish there was reincarnation or a second chance to come back for another look. Perhaps, but I suggest you use time wisely, get out and do something new and different every day.

There is a lady in our town who professionally drives a jet powered dragster that goes from zero to 60 miles in .8 seconds. Now she really uses opportunities given her and she is still in her twenties. What will she do for an encore?

The odds that you are here are enormous. I am 81 and wanna have fun, fun, fun!

Wow! Thanks for making me feel great today!

I agree, Do not waste a minute, but I am not sure I want them to all be filled with just fun, fun, fun. I like the word contentment myself.

A lovely tribute to each of us. Thanks for the affirmation...

Oh, I'd love the tickets to the Bill Thomas talk in San Francisco April 16. Thanks!

You have a terrific attitude, and I agree. I am only 73, but I am not ready to give up on fun!!

I've got a lot of things to accept about myself.
You hit it on the head. Live your life the way you think it should be.
All of us should be glad the odds were ONLY 600,000 to 1
good attitude checker

Johna-

I like the word contentment too, more and more each day.
So how about: fun, content, sleep, fun, content, sleep?

Seems self contentment comes while connecting with and for others.

Joanne:

I really like the way you and your commenters think!

You hit the nail on the head! Loved it, loved it, loved it!

Thanks so much! At 76 I'm ready to create a new persona, to try new ways of doing things, to become more of what I have dreamed. And to do that, one must have self confidence, just what your article inspires!
