Ronni Needs a Day Off Musical Interlude

category_bug_journal2.gif A few things in life have caught up with me and I need some space so I'm taking a day off.

Peter Tibbles, our resident musicologist who holds forth here on Sundays, has made that easy by providing me with some music set aside for days such as this when I need a break.

From the time I was a little girl when Hoagy Carmichael was a popular radio performer, I have been a fan. In addition to so many of his songs I like, there is something about his lazy drawl of a soft voice that makes me feel good and warm and comfortable.

Hoagy Carmichael

So here he is with Ol' Buttermilk Sky.

I have always loved Hoagy Carmichael. In part because my Dad does - they were in the Army together. Thanks for the reminder about him. Today Dad is having some surgery for a malignant skin cancer and I'll send some of Carmichael's music to him.

I particularly love to see any of the several old movies that he does cameo appearances in, performing his songs. He was one of the really great songwriters.

I, too, enjoy Hoagy Carmichael. Who can forget the romantically haunting "Stardust." Then, a couple more favorites of mine are "Lazy Bones" and "Up A Lazy River."

How about that 1944 romance-war adventure Howard Hawk's classic movie "To Have and Have Not"! Humphrey Bogart and 19 year old Lauren Bacall reportedly began their romance making that film which included character actor, Walter Brennan. Remember that flirty seductive Bacall character's line to Bogart beginning..... "You know how to whistle, don't you ...."

Carmichael is in the background mostly as he portrays "Cricket" in the hotel's piano bar.

Life catches up with all of us from time to time.

Just the right stuff for the mid-week blues/hump/whatever.
